hi!
i was going through some specs and tech articles, and i wonder something.. Does the 4a-f use the same block as the 4a-g? can a "f-spec" narrow angle head be swaped for a "g-spec" wide angle head ? and another thing.. does the same "g spec" head (4ag) work with a bigger a-series block (like 7a-fe 1800 ccm) found in coronas and such? |

well, it's possible that the 1800 block is the same, but bored more...that's all...

7AF(E)+ 4AGE head=7AGE - yes, it's possible (and described in tech section of Club4AG).
7AFE is 81mm bore (same as 4A series) - difference is in crankshaft (stroke). |

nice! how does it drive? its a shame u loose that peek.. do we have any graphs? how much power does it make?
so then i guess it is not a problem to fit a g-head onto 4afe making it 4 age? bore and stroke are the same.. |

A 4AGE head fits on a 4AFE block, but the internals of the 4AFE block are weaker and may not stand the high rpms of a 4AGE.

I'd say it's only worth the effort on a 7afe block. You should also read all of Bill Sherwood's teachings on http://www.billzilla.org.
He even considered using a specific 4afe head on a 4age block due to better flow characteristics, and knowing Bill it' probably not even that crazy an idea. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Very old topic, but apart from the weaker internals, are the 4A-FE blocks the same as 4A-GE's ?
Can a 4A-FE block be fitted with 4A-GE Crank/Rods/Pistons ? Most 4A-GE's have done heaps of km's, and its a lot easier to find a low km 4A-FE, with nice bores, to convert to GE spec. Daytone,
Since the 4AFE blocks are longer then 4AGE blocks and have bigger stroke I doubt they can fit 4AGE crank/rods/pistons. Or if they do fit they will probably loose performance because the pistons will not move up and down the whole lenght of the cylinder. But I aint sure.. TE71Corolla currently runs a 7AGE (so 7AFE block with 4AGE head) in his TE71 (see projects thread) with carbs. At the BBQ day he mentioned that the block pulls much better then a 4AGE but it redlines at 6500 rpm or so, he really misses the revvyness of the 4AGE. I wouldn't mind seeing some dyno info on that car
