Director signed for street racing sequel.

June 08, 2005 - Indie filmmaker Justin Lin, who directed the 2002 film Better Luck Tomorrow, is being brought on by Universal to direct The Fast and the Furious 3 (expect a catchier title later) according to today's Hollywood Reporter.

So what's the next installment about? Set in Tokyo, in the underground world of Japanese drift racing, the story centers around Shaun Boswell, who goes to live with his uncle, a military officer, to avoid a jail sentence. They live in a cramped apartment in a low-rent section of Tokyo.

Lin will reportedly shoot the film starting this fall at locations in the U.S. and Asia. Lin's currently completing work on the film Annapolis, starring James Franco, Tyrese Gibson and Jordana Brewster.

Vin Diesel, who starred in the first Fast and the Furious flick but skipped the second, told IGN FilmForce that he might consider returning for the third film. He said, "If it comes together, it can happen. If it doesn't come together, it doesn't happen." There's no indication from the newly released plotline that his character would have a part to play.

We'll keep you posted on the latest.

The way I see it this could either be, quite good or absolutely rubbish i'm betting on the latter.

Actually, if I was the producer and wanted to make as much money as possible, I'd give the hero a hachiroku.

Reason?
1. The film's target audience is: male, 12-25 years old, with a "lifestyle" approach to cars. They know that "hachiroku" is not a sushi plate, they've downloaded their share of drift vids, hell they even know Takumi!

2. The car has a cult status globaly. Consumers love to buy "cult". Until it turns into "mainstream".

3. Cinema audiences will relate better to the underdog with the self-modded underpowered car, than with the hugely powerful monster. A David vs Goliath thing.

HOWEVER, since I am not the producer, and I would hate drawing attention to my car, I would PREFER, the hero drives another oldschool car like a Sil80.

Nah, Sil80 would be way too cool. Tongue
Perhaps a soarer. Heavy as a tank and when you want to drift with it you surely have a great disadvantage. >Smile

Hmmm... i don't think they'll have any oldschool cars in that movie at all.

It'll probably be a newer modell.

But if there where an AE86 in there, that'd be good. The prices of our cars would rise even more! Wink

please don`t let the ae86 aquire the fast and furious status man!People may want to steal my car , demolish it or put it on fire out of jealousy.

bergen op zoom is a crappy town you know, stuff like this happens.Demolishing cars out of boredom.

Don`t know if they are gonna use 86`s in the fast and the furious because they are not very well known in the general public i think.I think it will mostly be skyline`s,supra`s,civics, rx-7`s,evo`s and maybe a low budget crappy fwd jetta or eclipse.cheap compared to an skyline that is Tongue

Real men race downhill
