Hello from Switzerland
You can put a 7-rib smallport in for more performance, if you have one anyway. The thing is that it's not really worth getting one for a lot of money, cause then your usually better of buying something faster in the first place.
I've seen some pretty decent dyno results from a redtop on some site. The guy alimonos bought his camshafts from documented it well. That dude put in a redtop, and modified the smallport fwd intake manifold to fit, which also amounts to a couple of horsepower extra (compared to bluetop intake manifold + expensive adapter plate). Then he put a supra throttle body on it and it even made a few more horsepower. He almost got 120 wheel (!) horsepower in the end from this engine without any fancy modifications. BTW, removing AFM would indeed be a mess. You need the complete engine wiring loom and ECU from a MAP sensored ae86 or else a lot of wiring skills. In the end the benefits arent all that great. AFM works better in areas with mountains too. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

This is the guy Ivan talking about. If you go NA - main goal is small port head. But anyways if you don't plan to cross 200hp "border" - the bluetop 3-rib block and internals are strong enough - and revs faster ! |

Hello from Switzerland
The higher compression of the late 7-rib 4A-GE is also nice for torque.

Hello from Switzerland
Here is a teaser by the way. My camera died on me after the first three shots of the engine bay when I went to see the car.
Have you ever seen a cleaner looking engine bay of an 86?!? When I say this thing was kept in _very_ good condition, its an understatment. I'll post more pics once I have the car! |

Hello from Switzerland
9~ The car is so incredibly clean, its nuts. What do you guys think? I'll get more pics once I get the license plates...
I will definetly change all the liquids, air and oil filter. I was told I should at least clean the injectors since I can't afford new ones. What do you guys say? How much do new injectors cost by the way? Also, how important is it for me to change the fuel filter? Does anyone know where I can download a copy of the service manual for the 86? Normally, the car needs to have its 60 000km service done, but I am already doing quite a bit of maintenance on it. Would like to check in the service manual what more needs to be done, if anything. |
