indeed, it must be the bearings then.

Yeah, doesn't sound it would be the diff, if you are in neutral and I'm assuming you are standing still, the driveline isn't moving.

Oh wait a moment, i think i misunderstood you. Could still be the diff and probably is. I've seen mx5's with these problems who have been serviced by the mazda garage and have had this for years..
But there were also people who blwe up their diffs two weeks after the noise started... You'll know soon enough.

His diff wines really loudly, I should know, I know how mine sounds with the rear seats out, and it is a lot more quiet. Now my diff isnt in top shape either, but that noise is probaby the ring gear or one of the main bearings on the driveshaft into the diff. What can you expect when it has been drifted without proper maintenance.

My guess is the ring and pinion is whining..

my car has the same thing going on, but only when I move the car.. if the sound occurs while the car isn't moving, then its probably the throwout bearing on the transmission..

The ring and pinion whining wont "hurt" the car persay.. not for a LONG while atleast, but its just annoying as f*ck.

senna Wrote:No, it's realy disturbing, you even hear it very loudly when you put the engine off, and put the gear in free Crying

very strange. i think you hear the noise when the engine is ON and the gearbox is in neutral, right? then its the bearings in the gearbox. especially the first one after the clutch. the second one (which separates the input and outputshaft) is very close to the input-bearing as well and could also be changed ralative easily.

i think you hear the same sound i heard .... i am changing all bearings now ... will see whats the difference then Smile

mo-racing, I was talking to senna on MSN and he said that the sound was gone when the car was at dead stop. Its only when in neutral and the car is rolling.

Neutral and rolling and not while driving>????? Bearings dead prolly the diff needs some refreshment maybe oil that can help alot.

then again if you fuck the diff up i don't know how senna drives.

Then again you can set your pinion wheel and crown wheel so that is adjustable or its now worn out (knowing how jasper drove it)
