Camshafts are in :-) Hurray!

clearance [cl] 0.20mm 0.20mm
duration [0.1mm+cl] 260° 252°
duration [1.0mm+cl] 230° 222°
valve lift [cl=0] 9.00mm 8.50mm
peak angle 110° 110°
timing [1.0mm+cl] 5/45° 41/ 1°
lift at TDC [cl=0] 1.65mm 1.25mm

So my intake will be 260 degree and exhaust 252. I have done some comparing to the HKS camshafts etc and i noticed a huge difrence. Those camshafts run the same pattern (264 in and out) They have less lift.

The clearance on these is just the max of lift and clearance for the 4age. I will be mounting them soon but I still need lots of work before i am gonne test my car.

robokill, camshaft lobe to shim clearance should be 0,31mm +/-0,03 Exhaust and 0,25mm +/- 0,03 Intake. At least that's what the HKS manual states.

Stock lobe to shim clearances are 0,15-0,25mm Intake and 0,20-0,30mm Exhaust. What brand are yours?

Be careful with those exhaust clearances.

Hey Apardal,

We changed my clearence to 0.15mm on all. Brand = Cat Cams

I brought my car to the tuner as I had decided I wasn't gonne do my camshafts in myselve. I learned from them the info and how to do this properly and the afternoon went very well. ( brought the car on thursday because the valves need to be completly cold)

We build it up and we put on the sanded down and painted valve covers to finish the job.......... To finish the 4a-ge in that case. It seemes that the intake valve cover had some sand in the upper channel above the plate. It destroyed the engine.

I had a small drive of around 2 km and just before i hit the highway it died on me. We got it running and decided to do a checkup back at the shop and there it came out.

Everything is damaged. Luckily the tuner told me he is able to recover the camshafts.

The tuner btw http://www.dbmengineering.nl is very good with the 4age. And i have decided to do a full rebuild now. I will take one of my spare 7 ribbed engines to make a new hart for my AE86.

I will keep you all posted on what and how. For now I am just sad!

The tuner told me neither he or me could have forseen this. And he is right or not if I would have gatherd more info this would not have happend.

Anyways after over 320K of good KM's the engine now dies. Banging head Banging head Confused

Robo, like I said on the phone, this sucks major. Its a hard lesson learnedSad
Luckely 4age engines aren't too expensive to replace, but that doesn't make it any better. Offcourse your idea of rebuilding an engine from scrap and tuning it right away is a nice choice aswell, allthough a lot more expensiveSmile

I think its time to invest some money into a parts cleanerSmile

main stuff is orderd and building has begun! Smile

main engine stuff!

40mm crank
7 ribbed lower block
Big port head

81.5mm pistons

I need to see if the camshafts will be recoverd in that case it will have the following

260 9mm lift intake
252 8.5mm lift exhaust

I will add a oil temp sensor + gauge. And i need to see if i let some work done to the head. The intake will be modified and also the exhaust!
