what shocks/struts to buy?
kyb AGX are pretty nice shocks for the money, but not the best there are. The problem with those is that they might not be as easy to find at low prices in europe as they are in the US. I havent seen them here before.
The shocks most americans use in the back are some 90's chevy camaro rear shocks. There are others that will work though, you just have to find someone who happens to know what fits. For example I think it was jamiemirror who found out that fiat argenta shocks fit. The trd springs are VERY short...so shorter shocks would be necessary to pass inspections...or you'd have to change springs (pretty easy in the rear).

About oil in the reassembly process...it's not really necessary, but it is a common practice to pour some coolant fluid in the strut before putting in the shock insert. This helps the shock conduct heat away from it and might help against shock absorber fade during extreme hard use.

we really dont' have to heavy inspections here in iceland. At leas nothing like your mot from what it seems.

here they just check the lights, the suspension very lightly(just the bushings i think) and few other things like emision and tires and such. Also they will not be very happy if you have rust in some critical spots.

But really, if your car starts and drives and the radio works, you are good for another year Cool

But i rather want overall top condition of the car instead of just being alowed another year. I usally ask them to inspect it closely and tell me what seems to be wearing out.

yes jamie uses the fiat argenta rear shocks.
but i want something adjustables to, in case the sprigs are too hard or soft.

shortstrokes on rear are necessary for mot passing but also by hard driving i have fear that the short sprigs bump out from their places.

i can get the kayaba agx for approx. 115euro+- for one damper, here in czech rep, this is price similar to konis here.
i intrest which is better.
i have not inspected if the agx are aviable for ae86 as direct fit.

thanks for the numbers skassa.

i found also netami coilover set for honda civic ek9 by this distributor.
but dont know the springrates. sleeves looks similar to paradise racing.

AGX runs about 380~400 USD over here in the USA
Many of my froiends have them
they "work" just fine but the cars feel like combat boot to drive IMHO

for about $150 more you can get the BEST shocks
Known, Tested, Proven, and Recomended
Tokico HTS
Driving with tokico HTS makes the car feel very crisp but very stable at the same time

I run 8.0KG front coil overs (Ground control from T3)
and 6.0 trd in the rear
you need to cut the cassing 40m and add 22.5 mm of spacer (cheap washers from hardware store)
RCA or NRCA is a must or the steering will feel sloppy

Even Keiichi him self recomends HTS
If anyone has more track expericance with AE86 please let me know who that is
and i will ask them what shocks they recomend

they only thing i do not like about HTS is that if one goes bad you can not just buy one replace ment Sad
they only come in a set of 4 shocks

Hi GUYS.

I have just been looking in the Koni catalog, as i think we must be able to use the same Camaro Shock,as the US guys use as a Shortstroke rear, with the KyB AGX.

There seems to be one with outside adjustment for the 92-01 Camaro, just as the KYB AGX,

Have any of you guys tryed that?

So we can have adjustebel KONI , both front and rear, at some decent prices.

I dont see why it shouldnt work. I'd actually prefer to have koni on my car over AGX anyday.

Okay,

I will try to get some fact about the measure of the Camaro shock, before ordering it.

Next week i will now, if it can be done, and ofcourse also the price of the koni,
Right now on the official Danish pricelist i can get 60 procent off,

So it will be alot cheaper then others, i can get,so it will be worth a shot

ok after experience with kyb agx in mr2 and normal koni in ae86 i am 100% for konis.

i know about one guy here with tuned camaro i can ask him for measurements from the stock dampers.

edit: how much weight an camaro? and the load on rearaxle?
i am worried about too much stiffness of those shocks
