AE92 VIN or piston part no
It's for my friend:

I need to purchase new piston for my 4AGE, which has been taken from FWD AE92 and put in my AE86 RWD.
Now I need serial body number of AE92 '87-'89 to order right piston in
Toyota, because with out it they don't know part number.
Motor is 4AGE with TVIS and has red and black letters are on cover. Piston's
pin is 20mm.
Thanks for help.

ZaX the high-compression redtop didn't come with TVIS. Is your TVIS functional?
Because since I'm putting a high-comp redtop in my car, I will have to use my TVIS bluetop intake manifold, but will probably have to use it as non-TVIS. I don't think the redtop CPU can cope with TVIS operation. Anybody know more on this?

a) Not red top, red and black lettering
b) not high comp
c) it's for my friend Max Wink

np mate.

about your car
Blue top intake manifold + intake manifold adapter to small ports head is the solution for your engine.

ZaX thanks for the photo and the info.

The adapter will have to be machined (aluminium?). But equally important is what will drive the twin intake "butterflies"? If I'm not wrong, TVIS has twin intakes for each cylinder. The redtop cpu cannot cope with twin intakes, so what is the solution? Bind them so both respond to a single throttle input?

PS I think redtop reffers to black and red lettering, just as bluetop reffers to blue and black.

Dorito, you just remove the butterfly plates altogether. Running the TVIS ecu is going to be sloppy, but it works just fine with TVIS disconnected.
TVIS intake manifold is just 8separate runners, 2 for each cilinder. There are only 4 butterfly valves in the TVIS plate, they are already bound together. The TVIS plate is simply replaced by the adapter.

The redtop blabla is indeed very annoying. I have the same engine that Zax is talking about, it is an ordinary TVIS engine with red and black letters.
Better stick to highcomp and bluetop. Those avoid confusion.

BTW Zax, does the 87-89 engine really have 20mm piston pin's?
The one I have is just a plain 3-rib block, but these are rumoured to have the bigger internals. It would be a bummer if this wasnt consistent for the 87-89 production range since you might end up getting 18mm pistons.
I'll look up the parts catalogue for you though.

I'm not to sure if it's the correct one though, there are so many to choose from. This was just a standard piston for '88 model ae92 GTI.
There are some different variations with pistons that have circlips to secure the piston pins, and others that use expansion to hold the pin in place.
