ZaX AE86 dorifto SPL handbrake upgrade
Even tho I have very good drift spec RS13 I continue to develop and upgrade my AE86 with drift spec gooodies.
One thing that I like on a 200SX is handbrake. I can lock wide rear tires at speeds above 100kmph easily. On ae86 it's totaly oposite. Handbrake is shit! So I decided to do something about it. I rebuilt one set of calipers and modified it. I extended the part where you connect the handbrake cable. This way it should be easier to apply more force on pads. This weekend calipers will be fited to the car so I could tell you the result! I'm hopeing on good results. PS: i know hydraulic hanbrake is best, but it's also not so practical on daily driver AE86. Whats up Zax..
Did the extension of the lever on the rear caliper have any real effect? And BTW.. You never returned my message regarding the Greddy gauges! 1987 AE86 http://www.bilgalleri.dk/html/gal_visbil.asp?ID=41755 http://www.aeu86.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3255 ...FWD SUCKS!!... |

I'm still a bit groggy from last nights beer, so forgive me if I sound stupid, but what is the idea behind lengthening the arm that engages the handbrake?
I can see that it allows some more torque to be exerted, but you also need more travel from your cable and handrake lever.. I'm curious how it will work out FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

I know i would! Quote:I can see that it allows some more torque to be exerted, but you also need more travel from your cable and handrake lever.. I'm curious how it will work out IVAN: Your probably right about the increased travel lenght... Lets see what ZAX says when he tried it out. 1987 AE86 http://www.bilgalleri.dk/html/gal_visbil.asp?ID=41755 http://www.aeu86.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3255 ...FWD SUCKS!!... |

If the calipers is OK and the part that self-adjust is in perfect order (you might need shims), the stock handbrake can lock the tires too.
Mine can easily lock at higher speeds, the next problem is to get it to un-lock again... Im planning to mount a spring that pushes the brakelever back again. Youtube Myspace and I´ll Google your Yahoo |

Ive fitted these Uras extended arms to a RPS13 (One of the top Drift cars here in Ireland)and found them to work quite well and quite an easy fix to a poor hand break
