I also checked the pistons, suitable for my car:

STANDARD:
13101-16020 : piston sub assy w/pin
models: 4agec, 4age... ae86... GEN, ME, SDZ, FRG

O/S 0.50:
13103-16020: piston sub assy w/pin
models 4agec, 4age... ae86... GEN, ME, SDZ, FRG


I also entered another VIN (Knudsen's car), and I've got DIFFERENT piston part numbers !!!

STANDARD:
13101-16030: piston sub assy w/pin
models: 4age...ae86...EUG

O/S 0.50:
13103-16030: piston sub assy w/pin
models: 4age...ae86...EUG


So there are really two or more different pistons used in bluetop 4age.

I'm wondering, when doing a rebuilt, if I can use the ones for more compression (EUG market ones: 13101-16030 or 13103-16030) in my 4age and so acheive more power Smile

Make a dry build. You shoul have at least 1mm clearance in piston's valve pockets - with valves full pressed.

What does it mean to make a dry build ? To build the engine and to mesure the clearance before starting the engine ?

There's another way, I can check other part numbers, like valves, valve springs, cammes, etc. if they are the same in 4age (EUG market) and 4agec (SDZ market)...

2 Bad Dog: Red Top has 10.3:1 CR, so it's not a big difference from 10:1 CR of AE86 Bluetop...

I look for 100 thou“ vertically in the plane of the valve axis, and 60 thou radially. If you don’t get any impression at all, put more clay on the piston till you do - the valve could be hovering over the edge of the cutout. You can also get an initial impression of how much radial clearance exists by just offering the head up with the valves loose-fitted and simply pressing the valves into the pistons at tdc.

I have driven my old 84' coupe with MAP and 124HP and now i am running on 85' AFM coupe. Those cars are totally different i was feeling that the MAP version was a lot powerfull than this AFM. Maybe there is the most difference in engine compression Confused ?

Already read that faq on club4AG but it helps me no further still is the question why are this cars so different nobody has idea that i asked i think the only possible way to discover what can be it is to get the engine from the old rusty hachi to this coupe with all the cables and ECU.
And if it has no gain in power try also to replace tranny. But i dont think there was some work around the tranny.

Ryo, as I found the different part numbers for pistons, there might be the answer...

All other things (as piston rings, valves, valve springs and stems, etc. ) seem to be the same part numbers for may Swiss AFM version and for GEN map version...

So there's the possibility that if you put the pistons inside (13101-16030 / 13103-16030) instead of 13101-16020 / 13103-16020, you wil have more power.

BTW. Ryo do you have a red sticker showing engine vacuum connections under the hood ? Does it say Swiss 4agec on the sticker ?
