It's a shame that they couldn't get the reliabillity of the rotary engine under control, because it's a beautiful design.
Nowadays it's a bit better, but those NSU Wankel Spiders and Ro80's deserved better Big Grin

Yupz,

its really fun, NSU sold it to Mazda 'cleaming' that they fixed all the bugs out (they really just wanted to get rid of the project). When Mazda got the first NSU wankel they were horrified. But at that time it had become a prestege issue. They worked a couple of years to figure it out and eventually came out with the first cosmo. That engine, if driven right, could easilly get 100.000km before needed a rebuild. Nowadays that seems like very little, but back then piston engines had a life only a little over that.

When you compare that with the engine now in the RX8, the RX8 engine is as good as modern day piston engines. However it still suffers from certain problems that the first mazda rotaries also had.
Slam this car when its cold and the engine needs a rebuild after 25.000km because the apex seals dont get their lubrication when the engine is still cold.
Also if you start the car and turn it off before the engine is hot, you'll have a great deal of trouble starting it again.
But its a great car!

What brand is that clutch? Looks serious..4 puck racing clutch. Please tell us how it drives with a racing clutch, I've never driven a car that has one before. When my current new stock clutchplate wears out I think I'm going to order one of Max Misawa's illegal garage clutches..

Looks nice!

But Kristian, you really, really gotta get some rims that fit the rest of the car!
