Insuring a ae86 import
Hi all;
Towards the summer i am going to import a car i have wanted for years...... A white Levin coupe. I have wanted one for ages, is my uncles fault as he has a LHD white levin coupe. Anyway my question is about insurance. Insuring a UK corolla GT is real easy and cheap. However who covers jap import ae86? As ive seen a lot of insurance companies wont touch imports before 1990-1992 I might have to find out the mr2 specialist actually. IIRC they covered import MR2 SC so they might cover its brother the ae86 Cheers Harvey |

How old are you mate and what NCBs do you have? I have 1 year NCB and i'm 22, had only been driving for a year when i got my AE86 import. Fully comp was £1300 and TPFT was £880 from Adrian Flux. I've also been told that Sky insurance is a great company to use. Give them a try and see what you get.

Insuring a ae86 import
Hi mate, im 23, 3 years NCB so will be 24 and 4 years no doubt when i get the rolla.
I currently pay £730 for my imported Starlet GT with alloys filter and exhaust declared, which is pretty good imo (fully comp - 0 voluntary excess) but they dont cover import ae86 A UK one would cost me about 600 quid lol Yeah someone else said sky insurance are good, i will have to give them a try nearer the time. How have Adrian flux been? When i last tried them (about 3 years ago) for my mk1 mr2 the quote was ok, but the excess was silly! I think about 600+ !!! |

600 with Endsleigh!? Wow thats good, they have not been very competitive for me in the past but never tried them for a 86.
My GF is with them, they were ok for alloys but would not let her fit an air filter or other mods. Is yours standard or might just be because she is young (19)? Yeah as someone said UK ones are silly money, and JDM is better UK ae86 tend to have the rust problem where as a jap import will normally be a lot better condition. (especially for the money anyway - noy saying there are not clean uk ae86, just they will be even more money!) As for not telling them its an import - would never work they need your number plate which would in theory tell them its not a UK car. And if not its a big big risk to not declare everything as insurance companies are nothing but scumbags that wear suits, they will always try and find an excuse not to pay out in a claim so best to never pull a dodgy one when it comes to insurance. Its hard enough getting money out of them when its all legit! lol |

Insuring a ae86 import
SEXY 16 Wrote:dont tell the insurance company it is an import do not do this, i repeat do not do this. i got a phone call from my insurance broker saying the vehicle they had insured was a gt coupe.i said yes. they asked if it was uk car. i said no it's an import you know that. (i always declare mods, points etc) they had to cancel policy 11 months in and i was set to get no ncb for that year. the company i was with didn't insure imports and i was buggered, luckily adrian flux came to my rescue and honoured my policy and NCB as this was an admin mistake. uk insurance companies have levin and trueno on there books. do not assume when they say corolla coupe that they are right as it is a coupe. you should specify the exact car you have. if you don't you might aswell have no insurance whatsoever. |
