Wich ecu standalone works better in a 4AGE
I suposse that is MOTEC, but they are very expensive....
I read Megasquirt works good and have a lot of MAPS in internet and is cheap. In ebay usually find easy "microtech" standalone ecu.... but i don't know nothing about this. Can we buy a Stand alone ECU, with good starts maps an easy arness wiring to the 4age? Regards |

The answer is "depends". It depends totally on your budget, intended use and support base.
Ghetto rigging a luke-warm 4A-GE or GTE on a budget? MSII will get you a long way if tuned properly..at least compared to screwing around with fuel pressures etc. Going all out: You'll need something more elaborate to get the most out of your work..Count on the tuning being at least as expensive as the ECU. As a bare minimum you'll need a constant load dyno or ideally an engine bench. Truth be told, the only "best" ECU out there is the one that your tuner is most comfortable working with..If you need readily available start-up maps, then chances are you shouldn't be touching the tuning. I have a good friend Engineer, he works for few years in the best tune Rallie cars company of Spain and one of the best in Europe.... I don't have problems whit the tune.
You said that the good ECU tunners don't use start-up maps????? this is really wrong. Regards |

I say that a good tuner can conjure up a start-up map in 5 minutes. It isn't exactly rocket science. If your friend has to rely on a pre-made one to get the car running, then just maybe he isn't as good as you'd hoped.
Anyway, if he will be tuning the engine, then I would be knocking on his door. Whatever he is most familiar with will be the quickest to install and easiest to tune. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

anyone heard of FJO??? They build stuff to military grade!!! That means it can and does work in the most EXTREME conditions...
take a look at these videos of their equipment.... in some extreme conditions http://www.fjoracing.com/downloads/WBO2%20test.wmv http://www.fjoracing.com/downloads/Progr...20Test.wmv Doubt megasquirt, MOTEC or any other system can hold up to that.... Now you aren't going to be driving over your system... but the point is its built to hold up in extremes... AND NOT LET YOU DOWN!!! It isn't cheap.... but it is rather complete and advanced http://www.fjoracing.com/products/341B/ Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! Abe Wrote:NoHachi, you always feels that know all of all, but never talk over experience... I'm sorry but I don't like this kind of aptitude... You know my friend?? NO! Whatever Abe, no need to get so worked up. I never said that your friend didn't know anything. My point was: I have installed and tuned a DTA and MOTEC system. That wasn't on a 4A-GE, but now that I have been through the procedures once it would be a lot easier to install it into whatever... The knowledge you gain working with these systems drastically cuts back the time for the entire install including debugging, far outweighing a base map that could be translated from most ecu's. Now if you need to do most of the work yourself, with the engineer only coming to do some fine tuning on the road, then you're best off with a simple plug and play solution inc base maps. Vems springs to mind, MS used to have someone selling AE86 looms too. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

I have recently installed a stand alone sytem on a vauxhall engine for a westfield, it was http://www.perfectpower.com the unit was a xms-l. It's not actually on the website yet, the xms is but this is a simplier version, but will run pretty much eventhing you need. We used R1 motorbike carbs with a TPS, the good thing is you can change the type of trigger wheel in the software, not limited to a 36-1. Also you can change the angle between tdc and the sensor, so it means the sensor doesn't have to be 90 degrees before tdc. I found it very easy to us.

Buy Megasquirt and map it yourself.
Easiest system i've ever been around. http://www.youtube.com search for gnugfur. the volvo running there is high on Megasquirt. Pushes approx 300hk on 660cc injectors with a T3-T4 turbo. And uses less than 1l pr 10km. Soooh, i'm be running Squirty on me Hatchi. my 50 cents. Kp62 - 135hp Ae86 - 135hp C32 Laurel - 440hp C32 Laurel - 125hp |
