Which head do I have - On the car, not me!
I am thinking of getting a inlet manifold made for either Motorbike Carb's or throttle bodies, but just wondering what head type I have, so I can get an inlet manifold gasket. I have a 4age with TVIS, but whick type, small, large port etc, Is there a marking on the head or inlet.

TVIS=bigport head.
65mm wide ports - just measure. Small ports are 50mm wide. |

What measurement do you mean? The actual throttle body itself.

I mean dimensions of intake port in the head. PS: I can deliver intake adapter for bigport head to sidedraught Weber/Delorto/Solex pattern (check my thread in Commersial Sales section - if pictures don't work I can send via e-mail). |

is there any way of telling without taking the inlet manifold off the car?

If you are sure it´s an TVIS, then there is no doubt.....you´ll need the bigport gasket.
Look between the manifold and head, is there a plate about 2cm thick? If so, it´s most likely a TVIS engine/bigport. Also look at the inlet manifold, if it´s "clean" on top without "ribbles" then it´s a TVIS/bigport manifold. All of this of course, is with respect to the fact that an adapter plate from bigport-manifold to small port head can be installed previously, allthough very unlikely. Make sense? just had a look at you´re engine bay shot.....you have a TVIS/Bigport engine.
But to be 100% sure no-one has installed the smallport top to the largeport manifold.....you´ll need to remove the inlet manifold. My evil Red/Black Panda http://www.bilgalleri.dk/html/gal_visbil.asp?ID=12832 My current JDM AE86 project http://www.bilgalleri.dk/html/gal_visbil.asp?ID=31609 |

thanks guys,
Have to decide now whether to go for carbs or throttle bodies. The carbs are working out alot cheaper. decisions, decisions!! Cheers Ivan 1972 MG Midget - AE86 Engine, Ford Anglia Axle - Escort LSD - Live the Dream!!1 |
