I must say I admire your work..nice and clean, fast too.. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Firehawk's N2 racecar project
Thanks guys! Unfortunately, we sold the only AE82 pulley we had along with the engine in the car. We didn't give any spares along with it so I now have a pile of parts I can treat my hachi with. Like these, for example;
Anyway - I cured the "click of death" from my starter with a pair of new solenoid points from a CE70 (RWD diesel station wagon). The starter is the "reduction type" unit so it should be able to turn even a higher-compression 4A-GE. I also modded an AE82 distributor heat shield to mine; The 19-row Setrab oil cooler found a nice spot in the front of the car; Finally, I have all the clutch parts so I can put the engine back into the car! Wehey! The flywheel is identical to the Toda one we had in the AE82 but apparently it's not a Toda. Same weight, too - 3.7kg. The clutch disc is an oldskool TRD metallic disc, rebuilt with new friction surfaces. Pressure plate is a standard one made by Exedy/Daikin Clutch. ...I already replaced the throwout bearing and rebuilt the duty cylinder; This damn cold and mild fever is keeping me away from the garage at the moment - I could already have the engine in the car if I hadn't caught this. Well, maybe next week.. |

Yeah - some of it he has already sold (some of it to my car, hehe) but there was still plenty of stuff left the last time when I visited his shop. He still has that tachometer but note that it's for RHD AE86 dashboard so fitting it into an LHD car would not be a straight forward bolt-on job. Edit: It's made by Tomoe Piston and only for RHD zenki models. |

Well, I wasn't going to go over to the garage yesterday but I did anyway. The engine is now in place and fastened down. The TRD engine mounts leave the engine a bit high as there's still a plenty of space between the oil pan and subframe - I had to change the carb linkage a bit because the frontmost link arm touched the inside of the bonnet..
Here the engine has just been lifted in - the carb linkages are at the old position on the intake manifold; Changed the linkage banjos to the old fuel rail holes on the head; Other angle; To test that the linkages don't touch the bonnet, I tried putting it on (installed also the bumper and grille); I've modified the wiring loom quite extensively and it's now pretty clean, with everything unnecessary removed. The battery will be placed here; It won't be that long until I get the engine running for first time ever since I bought the car. |

This weekend's topic was suspension and brakes. Most of the time went into the front struts, though;
Lower spring perches cut off the struts. Before doing this, I stripped all the paint off the housings with Nitromors because the sleeves were a really tight fit. A 40mm slice cut off the center of the strut housing. The steel coilover sleeves, 9kg/mm Eibach springs and spring perches. Sleeve welded onto the lower part of the strut housing, plus some paint to make it look pretty. The top part will be welded on as soon as I get the shocks and I can confirm how deep it'll fit and how thick spacers I'll need for the bottom. A mock-up without the shocks. I also redid all the brake lines, except for the long one which goes from front to back. The handbrake cables were in good condition so I just cleaned them up, lubed and installed back on the car. Finally, I disassembled all the calipers and started cleaning them up to be reassembled with new seals. |

Too much welding to the sleeves. Are they mild steel ? Or stainless ?
