Fiat racing topic (continuation of other thread)
Ok, I just stumbled onto these vids through that other fiat thread. There are no hachi's to be seen, not even Japanese cars...but man are these video's a prime example of what real competitive racing is. This driver is my new hero by the way..just take a look at his driving: very agressive, several small drifts, competition all over the place, yet you see him smiling and giving thumbs up when he is passed through a nice maneouvre. Thumbs up!

Small clip of the same driver practicing during a driftsession in an alfa 75, cool bit towards the end where you see him drifting a corner during practice and then doing the same during a race in his little Abarth racer..You can just see how much this guy is enjoying himself.

EDIT: i absolutely adore this cars (abarth topolino, mini cooper, ke, kp, etc..) but the thing i dont like is the driving position. Its just so un natural - specially with mini, with the engine in the front - the steering collum is almost vertical, and the pedals are stepped on like piano's. thats why i like 80ies econo-sport-cars.. they are cheap and quick/fun/"raw"/basic like the oldschool cars but have some "serious" technology in them, to make the ride exciting and make the experience comfortable enough to push hard.. this blance is perfectlycaptured with our beloved ae86, i think.

EDIT2: Those two clips are fucking awesome man. Man and theese things go for 1000 eur here; for a rust-free(ish) one! Thats the ordinary 850/750..

HeyNoHachi, do you know what are the tuning possibilities for these cars? Like cheap ones? Maybe a 1.1l swap? What kind of engines are theese cars using?

These are running the original Abarth engines, tuned to an absolute maximum (Some acquaintences race MGs in the same class, so if you want detailed info, I could nose around a pitbox or two). So ported balanced etc etc..
However, I remember reading that the typical way of tuning them is buying an Abarth engine from the A112 abarth, and dropping that in (straight swap). Thats an easy 70hp right there. From there on its pretty easy to tune to about 90hp, but it needs to be done old scool..so flowing the ports, upping the compression ratio, new cam etc.

You could nose around on the net for the word "Abarthski". Its the nickname given to ex-Yugoslavian fica's that are made into replica abarths.

I can still remember an interview with the F1 driver Jean Alesi..when asked what his favourite car was he answered that the had several Ferrari's en other sportscars in his garage, but that the only car that he still truly enjoyed driving on the streets was the little 500 abarth that he has kept since his youngest days.

Most common swap is the Abarth 1054cc engine,based on the normal 903cc,most common yugo type engine in balkan area,but again materials that were use by fiat were much better.The 1054cc engine from the A112 Abarth(70hp) are most common abarth engines to find,since the 1000TC car is by itself hard to find,and expensive(i remember seeing them on mobile.de for about 25000€ original).Those 1054cc engines had double barrel carbureator,higher compression and some other advantages.You can mostly build nice machines with those light chassis and those engines.

and guess what i have i my garage in my hometown Tongue
its an 600d fully restored.

i always liked those abarths, it would be interesting to know how do it.
i read an article that those machines are tuned to maximum and very stressed and need proper warm up, oil changes and rebuild in very small intervals.
