Flywheel Weight
Ok so last night I started changing my clutch. Everything is off: Gearbox, prop shaft and clutch housing. And I come face to face with a gorgeous flywheel that I really feel like keeping. The only problem is, the flywheel is 200mm and the clutch I have chosen is 212mm and a flywheel from a 20V. I'm guessing the flywheel for the 20v is about 5kg and the flywheel on the car is about 3.6kg. Is there any way to reduce the weight of the flywheel from the 20V to match or come close to the 200mm flywheel? or should I just buy a lightweight 212mm flywheel and sell the 200mm one?
I can't finish changing the clutch until I get a new pilot bearing anyway, so if anyone has one, or knows where the quickest place to get one is. Then let me know |

If I was to buy a lightened flywheel whats the cheapest 212mm one I can get? and fast?

Well Tetsujin and 20VWill have convinced me to keep the blacktop flywheel. It could very well be better for my kind of driving anyway.

Honestly, if your doing any type of autox/rally/roadrace/gymkhana/drifting get the lightest flywheel you can. I run a 3.7kg/8.15lbs flywheel and had no problems daily driving the car. I also had no problems in san-francisco either when visiting (less than 2 hrs away & family is there), and it's known for it's steep hills/roads. Once you get used to how it engages you won't have a problem with the clutch or killing the engine from stops. It's only slightly more touchy than stock (to me). Andrew |
