Igniter / Coil problems
Does anybody know how to test igniter (on the coil) to see is it working?
And did anybody fitted igniter and the coil from RedTop 4AGE (AE92 GTi) to the BlueTop 4AGE, because they are different. Car died on me last weekend, and after checkng everything I found it hasn't got voltage from the coil to the distributor, and no spark on the spark plugs because of that. I ran diagnostic and it says no RPM signal (6 flashes). Manual just says change the igniter, and it isn't very easy to find another... I tested resistance of the coil and pickup cols in the distributor and everything checks up fine. Also checked battery voltage to the coil and igniter and everything is fine (so ignition fuses and engine main relay are fine). Toyota scrap yard car park = AE92GTi - AE82GT - KE30 - KP62 |

You could try this (shamelessly lifted from http://www.toyspeed.org.nz) to test
the igniter output function : Quote:To test the wiring. This test applies a low level signal to the igniter trigger circuit, which in turn switches the coil to produce a spark. It does not check the igniter flyback signal, which confirms to the ECU that an ignition event has occurred. Igniter / Coil problems
Wow !!! Good resource parrot I hadn't picked up on that before. Much
better to have the factory information rather than just be guessing what signals go where and why Cheers... jondee86 The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man. |

Igniter / Coil problems
parrot Wrote:Download the diagnostics manual and follow the appropriate chart I did allready ... Little update; it isn't the coil/igniter... a changed that for a test and it works on another car. So it's pick up coils in the distributor aka cam position sensor who tells the ECU RPM of the engine. Toyota scrap yard car park = AE92GTi - AE82GT - KE30 - KP62 |

Igniter / Coil problems
Failing pickup coils are a common problem. Often shows up when the engine bay is hot and goes away when it cools down. Eventually they packup all the time.
If you don't already have one, a very good idea to add a heat shield to the distributor. |
