Z20LET?
I come from a vauxhall backround and I know the Z20LET engine and its family inside out and backwards, they are cheap, I have a zillion of them and I know how to make easy power out of them.
I noticed that this engine and the 4AGE share the same bellhousing so really all I would have to do is fabricate motor mounts and I would be set. I plan to run a stand alone so engine management isnt a problem. I noticed a AE86 online that had this swap done but i cant seem to find anything about it. I beleive the car had a C20XE swaped (same general engine, they share the block) I have seen this car talked about in many threads online but the pictures never work. Anyone have any info on this? know anyone who has done it? or have any pictures of the swap completed? thanks |

Z20LET?
I think you mean this one:
http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/ive-seen-...waps/t/978 Unfortunately no pictures of the car and no source of who did it... And even if the engine is bolt on on the T50 you will most probably suffer from the increased torque of the 2 liter engine and the T50 will wear down quicker. Better would be if you used a transmission made to handle the engine (Manta tranny?) or go for a XE20 swap instead. I know Mr. Doricar did a XE20 swap some years ago: http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/project-x...%29/t/3841 http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/my-quotxe...t=vauxhall Perhaps that's of any help. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

That second link is the C20XE engine swap i was refering to, that is even the same guy.
I found some pictures of the 4age bellhousing and it isnt even close, I dont know were the person who told me that got there info from but its definatly not true. anyways, I was reading through the specs on Mr. Doricar's thread and found what he used for a trans. Quote:Transmission What car does the ford type 9 gearbox come in? And were can i get a hold of the bellhousing adapter? I live in Canada so some of these parts may not be as easily acessable, there is an SUV here that uses the vauxhall motor and a rwd style trans but I'm unsure of the dimensions and doubt it would fit in the AE86 trans tunnel. thanks for the help so far that link was exactly what i was looking for. Edit: Forgot to mention, your third link dosent work |

But ofcourse you never got the Ford Sierra. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

Z20LET?
Yeah the Sierra was never available here thats why i didnt clue into it when I saw it in brackets beside the trans, lol
I did some research on it tho and it turns out we did get the sierra here but it was called the Merkur XR4Ti which also has the same drive train as early mustangs, and mustangs over here are everywere. But the article says the Type 9 trans can only stand up to about 200ft/lbs of tourqe which isnt a whole lot, actually the Z20LET almost makes that if not more in stock form. My concern with picking a trans is were the shifter will end up, I'm guessing i would be safe with a supra trans or a newer mustang trans, they have been proven to take high amounts of tourqe and the shifter shouldnt be to much hassle. But both of those trannys would require custom bellhousings and I'd like to stay away from that if i can. There is an SUV here as I mentioned above that uses this motor. Its called the Isuzu Amigo or Rodeo depending on if your in Canada or the US. I know the shifter definatly wont line up but it does have a removable bellhousing. I'm going to do some more searching and see if i can find a trans that fits it that came in a car instead of an SUV. |
