without tuning the 4age you don't really need to do much. Good oil sprak plugs and stuff are the way to go. The standard injectors and fuel pump can easily manage the engine. Onle if you go diffrent camshafts you really have to work on the injectors. (fuel pump has overcapacity) you can also notice this by driving hard for 5 mins and checking the fuel gauge. then relax drive normal and you are "making" gas. The fuel meter will plus becuase the return line will be emptied in the fuel tank. If you keep up drifting I think you need a better engine. Either tune your 4age or drop in something else. But to get the engine loose. open pipe after the headers 2-1 (cut the piece where they merge and weld on a 55mm pipe (it works) (under diff possible) Open airfilter (only has use with a better exhaust and its not really a notice until you do some more to the car) Ok, this trick I didn't test myselve but seems to work for mid range power. Remove the fuel rail and the injectors. Now the end of the injector is a black thingy. pull it down (almost as if you want to take it off) this changes the spray of gas and seems to imporve mid range power (so i heard) Good oil (I mostly use semi synth on standard engines and full on rebuild) good spark plugs (one grade colder than standard) new sprakplug wires (if possible thicker. magnecor 10mm leads) Maintain the engine by changing the timing belt around the 40 K (you abbuse the engine so the timing belt stretches more than norma) change oil between 5k and 10k with filter. Always know that all the componments to let the engine work. For what it's worth.. most modern engines run a bit lean and have white deposits on the valves and sparkplugs.. although I havent noticed this much with 4age's yet. It wont kill the engine.

i dont know if the magnecor wires are so good, i think Toyota oem ones are better. I know one guy who sells them if you want. But i personally would stay with oem ones.

Decent plugs and leads, decent oil (i use only castrol 10w40), exhaust and air filter. Regular maintenance to keep everything happy, all this seems to work for me.
8k rpm all day long and it just keeps going, it even seems to run better if it's driven harder No Smorking AE86 |

Your car looks really cool! In fact it's one of the most good-looking 2dr levins I've seen!

dunno, I've only noticed my engine getting really loud after being pushed beyond 5000rpm... it just started to scream a bit (heh, I've only driven a couple of hours by now... )
I'd say, it probably is normal. Isn't the 6600rpm mark where the engine makes the most power in typical dyno's? Might be related btw, what spark wires did you get? Mine seem to be pretttttttty worn (part number and perhaps a price too? ) oh crap, just re-read, spark plugs. hehe. Well, still, same question Which plugs, and grade? Looking for new plugs as well ^_^ |

jup normal max power is around 6600-6800 rpm ... so its normal it would get a bit louder then.
