Silvertop burning oil - compression results
I'll be interested to see what the experts make of this. My newly installed silvertop 20V (head was rebuilt 2000 miles ago by previous owner also head and block were skimmed with new TRD 0.8mm head gasket) is burning oil after 4k rpm. The initial thought was that it would be the valve seals, but after some engine stop leak and copius amount of burning later (from top of dipstick to bottom in one night after an hour or so motorway driving) it's got me thinking there could be more to it.
So, I did a compression test this evening and these are the results Dry PSI 193 cyl1 200 cyl2 195 cyl3 190 cyl4 Wet PSI 220 cyl1 250 cyl2 230 cyl3 220 cyl4 Now, the fact the pressure has gone up, would suggest my piston rings are at fault. Yet, the rings are all within tolerance and way above the minimum amount for a 20V, so i'm a bit baffled as to how this could come to be. After running the engine over for a while, we removed the dipstick and sure enough the dipstick was producing smoke. So, yet again it points to piston rings, but im still amazed that the compression could be so high. Is there anything I could be missing here? |

Maybe some of the rings are not put in correctly? Just an idea, since it sure sounds like the oil is getting past the rings. Might be a problem with the oil scraper rings.
