Eric the water pump sucks water, you cant change that so those pics of yours are backwards.

Are you planning to use the heater. Definately easier without it

Yes you can block that water line off on the exhaust side at the back of head.

That pipe labelled bend is your bypass pipe, you will need, or atleast its recommended to use it, allow water flow when thermo stat is cold/closed.
