I had the same problem (clutch engaging very close to the floor) and
it was caused by the slave cylinder being partly seized. Particles of
rust had jammed the piston so that it could not move freely in the
cylinder. The fluid was like rusty water Undecided

You should take the slave cylinder off and dismantle it to inspect the
cylinder bore. If it is badly rusted, you should replace it with a new
one, and then bleed the system with fresh fluid.
