A few significant differences... TE7x means... (x = 0, 1, or 2)
1) It uses the hemi head T engine. There was a 1600cc version 2T, and an 1800cc version 3T. There is also an 8 valve twin cam version TG.

2)The T also means the steering is worm and roller.

There are a lot of chassis similarities between the TE7x and the AE86. All the suspension mounts are the same, you can use anything designed for the AE86 suspension on a TE7x. Well everything except the upper strut mount. On 1979-1982 all the xE7x chassis had a slightly different upper strut mount.

There is a one year exception to this rule... 1983, Toyota offered the AE7x chassis. The upper strut mount is now the same as what will be available on the AE86... and the steering on an AE7x is rack and pinion, like an AE86... The AE7x came with the 4AC engine

Now you might be asking youself whats the deal with the steering difference....

The steering difference is significant to what engine you can use.... The worm and roller steering models make it VERY difficult to use a 4AG, the later AE7x, has different steering, it uses a 4AC... so a 4AG fits with no issues.

The rack and pinion steering also makes steering response quicker
