You have to be creative regarding OEM. NGK cables without the toyota logo work just as good as the ones with logo. 20 year old wires can work just fine, but it never hurts to replace them just in case. Signs of sparkwires failing are hesitation at certain rpms, nervous idle quality (could be a dozen things though) etc. If you don't suffer from these symptoms then you're probably better of investing is some other part of your hachi.
I say this coming from the MX5, which has a tendancy to go through wires every two years. You really do notice a difference when they are ready to be replaced: in the mx its the 3000rpm hesitation.
