I have the bar from Kid Karola's pic in my car. I still think they are pretty flimsy..wouldn't trust them in a crash. The trouble is that when you apply force to the mounting bolt, they and the underlying bodywork bend ever so slightly. You need just a small rotation to cause a fairly big displacement of the middle of the bar and that loosens the belts. If you add a couple of welds at the mount you active a lot more sheet metal and the whole construction becomes stiffer.

Whatever you do, don't buy one of these things (although the way they mounted the straps, with loops instead of a bolt, is the way to go):
