Arielis Wrote:Slipangle Wrote:Ford RS200 used in Rallycross had a bit over 700hp...I don't think so. Don't think...? Especially based on wikipedia. Slipangle is right. Lot's of UK based specialist who build huge horsepower engines based on RS200 engine. 850+ hp no exception. Several speed/ time/ acceleration record attempts with RS200 with high hp engine. It's basic physics. Just build huge torque at high revs. And they accomplish huge torque with high boost (2+ Bar) on an engine with big port cylinderhead, huge valvelift and relative high duration valve timing. (Not to forget stroke/ rod length ratio which is the way to huge horsepower/ torque. Every (if rules permit) serious competion engine built by knowledgeable people has longer connecting rods. This allows for some extra degrees of crankshaft rotation on which maximum force is applied through piston and rod.) Rallyesport needs wide torqueband so no huge horsepower. (Look into WRC engine building. Engine builders do incredible things with these 300hp engines. 600-900Nm of torque! (with all kinds of trickery, in the past even water/ alcohol injection to increase detonation margin) Audi built close to a (sealevel) 1000hp engine for Pike's Peak record attempt. (Look for video on youtube, engine sound In rallyetrim 'only' 450hp... |
