Kiwi Bogan
Hi All,

I'm Sam, 20 years old from Auckland, New Zealand. I like 80's Toyotas. Of the 16 cars I've owned since I was 15 about 9 have been 80's Yotas.

I also enjoy sports, pinocoladas and getting caught in the rain.

I currently own a 1983 Toyota Trueno (AE85),

1984 Toyota Mark II Grande (GX71),

AE85 Write up to date:

I bought this thing around May '09 as a "close to finished project". Ahuh. It was a bit of a whim and reminiscing back to the one I had when I was 16.

Cost $3k and came with 2 redtops, 2 bluetops, 4 K50s and a huge LWB Mercedes van full of parts. I was stoked until I got home with the car on a trailer from Pirongia and got told that if it was on the driveway (next to my old rusty ae82 that had been there for two years not running) for more than a week it was going to be towed away. This resulted in a mass sell off of parts, very, very cheap.

Anyway, I managed to get a park in Nick's workshop at Magwarehouse North Shore (where an old 85 in primer patches got more attention from visitors than the Skylines and Rx7s that rotated round it Big Grin). This was really good, access to great tools etc makes working a lot easier, however it was becoming apparent that things were not as close to finished as they'd first appeared. The redtop sitting in the bay already had a cut&shut on it but didn't have any waterlines or alternator, the wiring was a throw away and start again job (or rather I wish I had done that now), there was inexplicably no resistance on the clutch fork (and the friction plate was a T50 one and didn't fit) and a host of other niggles.

After sorting most of that (and moving the car to my Grandmother's garage (thanks Grandma!)) I'm left with the wiring still in a mess and the clutch still not working. With help from a few mates (mostly Doug, cheers man!) I had the K50 in and out of the car 7 times trying to resolve the problem. After too much time, a new clutch kit and lots of skinned knuckles I decided that buying a Niteparts 4age W5* bellhousing would solve the problem. I got the driveshaft out of Brendans green, rotary AE85 (and oggled slpy86's car at the workshop), a friction plate and master cylinder off trademe, a modified AE85 pedalbox off TS and a W55 from a dude in CHCH off Toyspeed (big drama there and the loss of a whole month). When the box arrived it was missing some vital parts like bellhousing bolts, shifter and a broken mount, so I bought another one as well.

At one stage I lent the front shocks from the car to another dude so he could get a WOF in his AE86, then on the way home he fell asleep at the wheel and plowed into a tree a 80km/h writing off his mint, factory 86, and more importantly, my standard AE85 Shocks! As reparation he offered me his 2000km old BC Gold AE86 adjustables for $800 and I thought that was OK.

So that's pretty much where the car stands at the moment, still on blocks, but the W55 is very close to in and the wiring is slowly getting done. Then it's all go!

These are all reasonably old pics, but not much has changed externally except those horrible back tyres.

Here's a random image dump of some of my old cars:
