Speaking from experience a long drive in an AE86 is more likely to shatter your dreams than make them come true. They are definitely not made for highway cruising.

Having said that, don't let that discourage you. We commend your taste and you are very welcome to the forum. Wave
I'll repeat the advice I give most newcomers looking for an 86:
There is no cheap option. It is almost always cheaper to buy a good car, than to get a bad one and have to fix it up.
If finding an 86 takes too long, consider the fact that there are many fun old RWD cars around that you could have fun with in the meantime.
