Refurbish black plastic - how?

Thanks. I will try to polish it with 3M Extra Fine compound. It works on plastic headlamps.
If this dosn't works, I will try to heat it, or a last solution must be paint it matt black. Project AE86 now begun. Cars I have owned: Toyota Starlet EP91 1,3 16v Turbo, 200hp Toyota Starlet EP71 1,3 12v Sport Mercedes 207D camper, 1977.
