you can see the line on the panel behind the door and where the recess ends.

With all the work you apparently have already invested, do me one favour and seal the crap out of it once done. In my opinion it was a big mistake from Toyota to fit that trim piece. It's one (or rather 4) big rust magnets they added to the Kouki facelift version.
