First of all: I'm not trying to judge, defend or take someone's side here, but this is your side of the story. If Adam Roche wishes, he can respond here.
Adam Roche seems to be a real AE86 owner, but something went sour in the deal you made. Had it in the past, and also seen it from the other side where I sent goods to the other side of the world and never are received. To deal with those cases is really hard, and I had to learn it the hard way: always make pictures including the shipping of the goods of whatever you are sending to the other side of the globe. And if you are the buyer demand the person on the other side to do the same.
Also, never pay someone as a gift as you can't request PayPal to reverse the transaction under a dispute. Paypal will most of the times favor the person who opened up the dispute. (yes, I also learned this the hard way...)

I think it sucks mayor ass that this happened to you and thanks for the warning.
