Anybody tried putting a non-tvis in AE86?

sounds like a redtop/bluetop arguement. i say go with the non tvis. better engineered engine. you can hybrid them, too. non tvis block with tvis head. many opinions for you to listen to. best bet for you is to just do what you want. figure out what suits you. i wish i have the time to try all combinations.
i dont really like tvis. i cannot feel a difference in the power band with or without it. you can disconnect tvis. the normal operation is butterfly open with engine off. so disconnect the vacuum to tvis and the butterfly stays open all the time. torque is not lost unless you have an accelerometer built in your head and can tell me different. i am a believer in air flows better when it is faster...small port. big port uses more air, but slower. velocity versus volume. why do you think toyota engineered the non tvis with smaller ports. maybe they noticed that the big port was overkill for size. besides i have driven a tvis with bigger cams and a non tvis with bigger cams. i could not tell the difference of who was faster. i never had the chance to race the two against eachother as the two cars were separated by the pacific ocean. but the tvis car was at sea-level. and the non tvis was at 5280ft ABOVE sea level. so i guess its clear which is faster. |
