Whatever Abe, no need to get so worked up. I never said that your friend didn't know anything. My point was: I have installed and tuned a DTA and MOTEC system. That wasn't on a 4A-GE, but now that I have been through the procedures once it would be a lot easier to install it into whatever... The knowledge you gain working with these systems drastically cuts back the time for the entire install including debugging, far outweighing a base map that could be translated from most ecu's. Now if you need to do most of the work yourself, with the engineer only coming to do some fine tuning on the road, then you're best off with a simple plug and play solution inc base maps.
