There is plenty to read about engine swaps already on the forum, just search around or check the technical FAQ on the front page. The project subforum is a good start already to see whats been done before. Do note that a swap never comes cheap (all though some say dropping in a nissan thingy isn't to expensive).

As for tuning the 4AC engine, there are possibilities here, some have done some mild tuning, but even some have turbo charged these engines. http://www.paradiseracing.com sells (or at least sold) a kit that brought your 4AC up to roughly the HP levels of a stock 4AG.
