I had this problem with Bilstein too... take the gland nut(top nut you show being machined) put the nut on the shaft. slide it down to the base. with shock upside down and using a piece of wood as an anvil, tap the bottom of the shock till the nut seats around the damper. THEN install shock and nut into strut tube and rotate gland nut till it catches Dan - You can |  ....
