Yep, the bigport redtop distributor works just fine on a bluetop. I've got one on my car and just swapped the plugs to fit it on the engine.
Do note, however, that you must use the correct cap for the distributor - an AE86 cap doesn't fit at all and AE82 one fits upside down. Even with what I believed was the correct cap (leads exit at a V-angle, two on each side), the timing was 180 degrees off from the numbers marked on the cap and I had to change the order of the leads to make the engine run. I may have had a wrong type of rotor, though. And like Bad Dog said, the smallport distributor with the triangle-shaped connector is completely different and not useful at all unless you also use a smallport ECU (among other things). |
