ECU - MAP or AFM version?
Okay, i thought i had it all figured out.. Just untill i desided to disassembel my 2 spare ECU´s... The one one the left has a raised limiter and is the one we "know" is for a MAP engine. I talked to the guy i bought it from and his car WAS a mapped version. (The raised limiter was the primary reason to disasemble them cuz ive been asked, if i could raise the limiter in some stock ECU´s)
The one on the right is the one that EPC has 2 results from and says that it comes from a RHD car... Again the seller says its from a danish LHD car with the MAP engine. As the picture shows, the 2 ECU´s is completly different Is the only way to discover if they both are for a MAP version, to install them one by one? And if "yes" whats the risks?? ( I mean, if it shows that one of them is for an AFM - do i kill my engine?) Youtube Myspace and I´ll Google your Yahoo |

ECU - MAP or AFM version?
Offcourse you can tell, which one it is, the problem is you can hardly tell by the number on top if it is AFM or MAP, then there's another problem to do with the ignition system, will it use ESA or VAST. you also can't tell by the number on the ecu (IMHO not for sure anyway)
BUT at the pins on the ecu board are letters, each pin has a combination which shows what input or output the pin on the ecu is. Look for the terms VCC and PIM these are the MAP sensors ecu inputs, so if these terms are printed on the circuitboard (at the 18pin connector) you,ve got a MAP one If these terms aren't printed on the circuitboard look for the terms VS and VC (at the 14pin connector) if these are there you're dealing with a AFM ecu. for details about the various ECU's look here http://toymods.org.au/Repository/TechDoc.../fi_31.jpg and here http://venixjr.student.utwente.nl/thomas...CU_pinouts regards Thomas My car weighs only 496 kilograms with the 4age in place! |

ECU - MAP or AFM version?
HUH???
have you got both the MAP letters and AFM letters on your print board? that's not nice because youu can't tell if the ECU is ment to run one of these if all the letters are on there, which would not be nice! and You'll probably not kill your engine if you swap ECU's but you'll more likely to kill a few sensors or the wrong ECU. pinning is different as are the VCC output voltages on both systems, VCC is the powerfeed to the sensors, in a AFM system they should be 4.5-5.5 volts when ignition is on, I'm not sure what MAP should be. grtz thomas My car weighs only 496 kilograms with the 4age in place! |
