how do i convert the digital dash?
FiShLeGs: Try to contact some of the guys in these topic:
http://forums.club4ag.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=145754 http://forums.club4ag.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=55596 According to the topics the digidash doesn't support mph reading eventhough it does have the letters in the cluster itself. However if it is in there it should be possible. You can also try to ask your wife to translate the following pages: http://www.hakuyukai.or.jp/86/info/meter/meter.htm 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

how do i convert the digital dash?
AFAIK the digital panel was never delivered to the US (mph) market for the AE8x.
With other cars that have had digital dashes in the US, there is always a switch or button that can be pressed to toggle the display mode from kph to mph, often the same button that switches other display modes/settings. "tureno" probably comes from some illiterate trying to be cool, since in the US there never was a Trueno it was always, and only, a Corolla which simply was never cool, it was a low-end econocar. And in the US market, in 1985 "GTS" meant a Celcia GTS, not a Corolla. Even at the dealers. The illiterates probably were confusing something they'd overheard about a Ford TORINO, which was a real car here. (Named for the city in Italy, yes.) Original owner, 1985 Toyota Corolla GT-S in the US of A. Will trade for a Cadillac-Gage V150 or a Ford GT44. |

I know the GTS was used for several cars of the Toyota lineup: it was also used for the Corona. That would make my guess that Toyota was just trying to use the term for high-end models. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

how do i convert the digital dash?
Banpei, folks in the US generally suspect that "GTS" was intended to mean "GT Sport" and "GT" was used by several car makers as shorthand for "Grand Touring". As in the Pontiac GTO, meaning something like "Gran Tourismo Omologato". I'm sure I'm totally misspelled that but I'm attempting to use the Italian words that translate into "Homologated for Grand Touring", meaning, a maker has homologated the car, standardized the equipment, usually by putting 500 of them into production for general sale. (500 was the usual number, less than that were considered not to be "production" cars here.)
"SR5" is usually thought to mean "Sport Rally 5-speed" since 5-speeds were a big deal back then, and Chevy had put out the Camaro RS (Rally Sport) so Toyota couldn't use the term "RS" without being accused of copying Chevy. Car makers can be so funny. Here we have Datsun, excuse me, Nissan <G>, spending lots of TV dollars on advertising a very popular car called the "Altima". Except, their TV announcer always calls it the "Ultima". Very definitely and clearly, and there's a difference between the two. But that's not as bad as Lincoln Mercury, who announced a new car several years ago called the Mercury Mystique. With a lot of radio ads then, not tv, and the announcer kept calling it the "Mercury Mistake". Ooops!<G> Sometimes, you have to wonder, with all the money at stake, why they (all) can't hire someone who speaks the native language, to find out what they are really saying.
