Drivers review Prothane Bushings
Wel, tonight was the night to finaly drive my AE86 with 4 new KYB standard gas shockabsorbers and the bushingkit from Prothane onder my car.

Wel it drives like a brandnew car Thumbs up! The comunication in the steeringwheels is perfect, steering is razor sharp. This is the best thing you can do for your car. Cornering is fun, and the grip is high on dry tarmac. No more dancing from the car in corners or over bumps, the cars stays flat. Vibrations from the enginebay can be felt in the car, because the bushings are much harder. I think its acceptable for a daily driver, and perfect for a track/fun/drift car.

The fitment of the bushing is perfect, and after installing it wil be easy to pull the bushing out again if you want to modify or work on your car.

My car drives like a dream Respect! Now please do the rain dance for me, so I can test the car on wet tarmac Hurray!

Tnx on your review michael!
Pero has TRD bushing kit on his car, but it's not polyurethane but stiff rubber. When my bushings arrive we could do comparo of the TRD vs TM.

Best regards

Why?...their bushings are less stiff, but they do give most of the same benefits.

Did a search, and I'm breathing life into this tread again to get some more feedback on the Prothane bushing kit from people who've been driving with these for > 1 year.

The only reason I haven't bought Prothane yet is that I fear they might wear too quickly (there was something in the tech-section on club4AG on polyurethane starting to crack after a few years), AND that they might be too stiff for daily driving compared to the (insanely expensive) TRD-kits or new original rubber bushings.

I guess a lot of you out there have Prothane, so let's hear the verdicts! Smile

This is a case where it would be better to have opened a new topic, but what the hey. I've driven on poly bushings for over a year, and you get used to it pretty quickly. The first time you drive with them on, you'll notice lots more small vibration coming trough the car, but I think it gets better over time.
Mine havent shown any damage over 1,5 years of daily (ab)use. Furthermore, they cost fuck all to replace, so who cares if they dont last for years? The originals often cant be bought without getting complete new suspension arms, and would cost a fortune. TRD is rare and expensive too, but the best of both worlds in durability, stiffness and comfort. Once you have already installed poly bushes, it is easy to replace them. It's getting the old rubber out that's a pain in the arse.

So go ahead and buy them, I havent heard from anyone else with cracked bushings, and some have had them for over 2 years now. A bit of maintenance (cleaning/greasing them up) once a year would probably make sure that they dont get damaged soon, since it's often the metal bits getting rusted in place that destroy the bushings.

I fitted Prothane to the Ex-Banpei Trueno, along with coil-overs & rear shocks/springs, amazing handling.
The bushes are well impressive & for the money you couldnt go wrong, have heard 1/2 complaint about them being a bit severe for road cars but the guys who are complaining all have 13" rims lowering springs & no RCAs so they are getting more bump-steer.
I have also fitted TRD bushes to the road car but havent driven her on them yet.
