Dunno what to think about it.
A japanese car with a german engine in it Dumb question

Although it's a nice engine, i think it belongs in Corsa's (no, not Toyota Corsa Tongue), Astra's and Kadett's or so Smile

Whoops....You just had to go and put my plan B in the open huh!

I've been thinking about the same thing. The C20XE engines are about the same weight as the 4A-GE but two liters. They can be found at each streetcorner for little to no money.
Tuning runs along the same path as the 4A-GE but obviously the C20XE keeps it 30hp advantage and gives better torque. I It tops out at around 250hp, some companies claim as much as 280bhp for the race engines.

And then ofcourse...if the c20XE fits, so will the C20LET (calibra turbo engine). Nice little upgrade path there...

They make pretty good sense. You just have to free yourself from the shackles of brand association and think big. How about the 2ltr engine from the E30M3?

A pedal to steer the rear

I don't see what's more wrong with this swap than any honda-/nissan-/mazda-swap?

Well, i can understand that people think that way, but changing engine to another manufacturer or turboing the beloved 4A-GE is as bad imho.

But as far as it's a fast helluva hachi, i like it! Smile

In my opinion it depends on what the car is for. Are you building a show car, if yes then it has to be a Toyota engine. But who wants a show car, their meant to be driven and to that end a suitable sized engine with more power cheaper tuning and greater availability has got to make sense.

A guy i know rallies a MK2 escort with this engine in it, is that wrong ? What about people swapping 4AGE's into Morris Minors and other such cars, nothing wrong with that [unless your a minor purist i suppose].

Lotus are using a Toyota engine in the Elise, why, because it produces the right performance for it's size and is widely available.

It's all about getting the performance you need for the cost you can afford. Having said all that i have no intention of swapping out the 4AGE heart of the Corolla. If i was racing it and needed more power, well maybe i would.

It looks a bit odd and the name vauxhall/opel brings up many negative thoughts, but I cant see why this should be wrong and a nissan engine is not.
Hell if the volvo turbo lumps were a bit lighter even those would be a lot of fun for little money. Although I wouldnt like to stick a sohc in the corolla..it looks wrong.
For some reason I too tend to limit my desires to toyota engine's for a hachi cause they look less "out of place", but costwise it's often throwing away your money to get a GZE or 20v, compared to some european or more easily available jap. engines.

For the sake of feeling and desire i would never swap anything in the AE except a toyota engine and prolly nothing else than one of the 4age series.

I would if i was this man at least remove the labels from the engine
