Hello,
I am looking for an oil cooler set for my small port. I need sandwhich plate, hoses, thermostat etc. Does someone know where I should start looking ? And were to get the parts ? There are so many options .... Maybe anyone has something second hand ? Cheers Jos http://www.heerlijklimburg.nl |

Hi Jos,
You can order an adapter plate with thermostat here. http://www.sandtler.de/katalogangebote/o...latten.htm Or here http://www.thinkauto.com/takeoff.htm Ron |

Stock sandwich plate only circulates the bypass oil through the cooler and returns it back to the oil pan (you'll need to add the oil return to a smallport engine or use a bigport oil pan) . It's a good system for a car which is mostly used on street and maybe sees some light trackday use.
For an engine which sees heavier use, it's preferable to use a sandwich plate that runs all oil through the cooler and then back into the engine's lubrication system. The sites Ron linked both sell these types of plates. If you buy one with an internal thermostat (to bypass the cooler when the engine is still cold), make sure that it's small enough to fit to the 4A-GE block. I have an older Setrab sandwhich plate with a thermostat and it didn't fit properly because of the oil pressure sensor, coolant drain plug and the engine mount. To make it fit, I had to make small adapter ring in a lathe and use a longer center bolt to raise the sandwich plate slightly off the block. Thanx a lot for you help guys !
I will buy one at Sandtler. Bought some parts there earlier. Could even pick them up. But first check if it will fit ( see if we have enough space ). Will buy one with a thermostat. Which one fits the 4 age : http://www.sandtler.de/katalogangebote/o...latten.htm Should I buy the one on the left or the one on the right ? Cheers Jos http://www.heerlijklimburg.nl |

No idea what that says. Anyway, be careful with your fittings. I am using push fit socketless aeroquip hose. When working out how it would all be situated prior to ordering, I did not appreciate how much the various fittings add to height of the assembled components. I am also using a remote filter block. Thus have had to order some 45 degree fittings out of the engine block take off plate to replace the straight out fittings ordered initially to be very confident of clearing the exhaust manifold.
My remote filter is located slightly behind and low down near the battery tray. Fittings can really add up. |

@jos:
I bought the set 563 at Sandtler: http://www.sandtler.de/katalogangebote/o...saetze.htm Everything fits, only the hoses are a bit short and it´s a bit tight at the engine. The sandwichplate on the left of your link is the right one. If you need to remove the stock sandwich plate, the bolt to fix the oil filter will not fix anymore, but you can use the bolt from an 4af engine. Greets raki http://www.sg-rallyesport.de |
