16V vs BEAMS
Beams and F20c got pretty identical torque peaks (220nm vs 217nm) not sure where You see bags of torque here?

OH! I feel like an idiot now
I have listened to someone and taken it as correct without actually checking! haha. Cheers for putting me right! |

Beams actually has quite a bit more torque over the whole rev range (producing F20C levels about 1.5k earlier). Peak figures are a bit irrelevant on some engines.

I've never driven a Beams to e honest but the F20C only pulls after 6k when vtec kicks in so you could be right Bean. I think the bigger Revlimiter on the Honda would make it a tie between the two engines.
Neverless both are great engines Daily Beater: Civic EG5 Work in progress Car: AE86 |

If both in an otherwise identical car, F20C will spank a beams motor any day of the week.
One of our local "wreck the cars yourself" places here sells beams motor and gearbox packages with everything you need for $700NZD. ($511 USD) S2k engines are still thousands due to rarity and demand. So dollar for dollar you could probably build a faster beams engine, but standard motor vs standard motor, nah. F20C has a higher average horsepower level across its geared powerband. Even with my beams motor I rarely dip below 6000rpm at the track when revving to ~8200rpm. Torque below this point is largely irrelevant, apart from street driving. |

Nice to have such a cheap source for nice engines, regarding the rpms that depends on the track, around here we have more small tracks and mountain passes so the low rpm grunt comes in handy.
I guess the only real way to end this argument would be to have too similar cars with each engine have race. AE86 ex-daily |

Dont get me wrong I love beams engines.
My car, gets between 7-8l per 100kms, has a trap speed for high 13s (99.7mph), and enough power to spin up first and second gear with very little provocation. It's going faster at the racetrack than I ever would have thought, and it's still on road tyres. Banging through the gears and staying above 6000rpm on shifts is awesome. So much fun. We've got lots of windy backroads here too, beams motor definitely does not feel short on torque in a ~1000kg car. |

for the Beams there's the official engine graph here: http://beams-redtop.com/blackhome.htm for the F20C I couldn't find a full stock dyno run - they all seem to have exhaust and testpipe fitted at a minimum.
This is from BrianCrower http://www.briancrower.com/makes/honda/i...BC0061.gif this has to be used with great caution (peaks don't line up with official figures) as numerous factors are unknown (i.e USDM or JDM engine, whp or engine etc...considering the figures probably whp). What is visible, as mentioned before it only starts kicking at 6k rpm and tapers off after 8k. The Beams makes around 140ftlbs at 3.5k and over 155ftlbs from 4.5 to about 7.2k.
