205/50/15 on 9.5"

An 8 inch rim is the optimal rimsize for a 205-50-15 if you want to extract max speed from it. I'm switching over as soon as I can find some 15x8 high ET rims that don't cost an arm and a leg.

8 inch is just about 203mm so "technically and aesthetically" its not stretch when you slap on 205mm tires.

It looks like I'll have to do some testing first. I wanted 205s all around because I thought wider tires at the rear would be too much for the 4ag, but apparently 225s are ok too. I will get power steering so I think the front setup is covered. now, for the rear...

With that said, I do remember r888s being REALLY wide in most sizes. If the 205 is similar you should be able to get it onto the 9.5" rims. Just measure across the thread and check if its a true 205 or a cheater.

do you mean 225s all around or are you saying 205 front /225 rear? what do the miatas use for the front?

I had and will have 205 on 8" again and never had the slightest problem - for drifting a 195 will do on the rear just as well.

How do you figure I plan to do so in the future?

Yup, the tyre actually bulges over the sides of the rim. Pretty much the inverse of stretch

I admit I jumped to conclusion there as 225 is wide for a 'normal' tire on 9" wheels but just inside the recommended values for a slick.

I suppose a few will be a grinch about this but look at this silvia (actually an Onevia).

He's using 195/55R15s on a 9" rim for the front and 195/66/R15 on 10" at the rear

This car is used for drifting and the owner of the shop who built it has many years building drift and race cars in japan. He's not a guy just wanting to look cool.

i did a track day with 195 45 15 on 9 inch all around and a bmw E36 M3 could not catch me ahahahahhah

im in a team in uk that runs on the British drift championship and we use stretch tires on a 630hp 1jz soarer ...

if you use good brands of tyres and keep an eye on pressure no problem

i think tyres are a really personal thing

most people buy tyres to fit the car,

some people want a look

but when they start driving the car hard and it rubs, or doesnt grip or whatever characteristic it has the driver will make changes and that usually involves better tyres....

it is pretty easy to tell who drives their car properly
