Clutch adjustment
Guys,
I put a new pressure plate and the mechanic said he won't leave a bit of play in it until I run in the plate. After around 2 to 300 km I got him to adjust it but still the shifting isn't aggressive. Can't get the wheels to spin on the shifts. It used to with my old plate.. This is an OEM plate.. Shall I get him to adjust the play? Cheated on my いたずらな女の子 and now I can't get enough of her.. |

What shall I do guys? I'm getting him to adjust it this weekend but wanted your opinion before I give him my OK.

There is no adjustment.
The pedal height can be adjusted and the amount of pedal freeplay before the MC stops pushing fluid back into the reservoir & actually starts pushing fluid to the slave cylinder can be adjusted. That is it. Nothing can make it engage harder or more sharply other then its design and/or quality. A clogged/restricted/internally swollen hydraulic flex hose maybe slowing down its engagement & causing this. It is unlikely as this also causes the MC to draw in too much fluid, giving a VERY heavy pedal wit zero free play. Flywheel machined? Clutch dragging much? Good luck. So what! |

Yeap, no adjustment of the clutch, just pedalheight/ freeplay.
Is it just me, but it´s rather dificult to get the wheels spinning during gear shifts unless you´re running a serious engine in your AE86... 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

i only could spin my wheels during shift in corners + added some revs.
and maybe a little squeek when shifting from 1st to 2nd '87 levin coupé |

I'm actually referring to the 1st to 2nd spin.. and sometimes 2nd to 3rd.. never after that..
Could be bad roads and very bad tires But nonetheless this doesn't happen anymore and I feel the clutch gripping late on the shifts where the engine revs but no proper movement until about a second where the clutch grips slowly.. Cheated on my いたずらな女の子 and now I can't get enough of her.. |

the freeplay is also a sort of adjustment....
when there is NO freeplay in youre pedal,you WILL fry youre shiny new clutch... so get some pedal play asap drift ae86:308bhp/435nmEDIT:384pk/498nm!!!!>now DEATH))) |

What happens at cruising speed, 60-80kph in 4th gear, holding the throttle steady & pushing down the pedal & letting your foot slip off?
The engine will gain about 20-2500revs and the tires might chirp and the clutch should grab so fast that there is almost no measurable time between reving free then back down to road speed. If you hear the engine wind down slowly, like 1 second or more, then it's a poor clutch. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY BS ABOUT NOT 'BREAKING IT IN' RIGHT! Yes, you can hurt it with high revs & slipping it a lot, but a dozen or so normal take offs is all it needs to get the fuzz off the disk. So what! |

Stand to be corrected on this, but I believe there is an "over centre"
action in the operation of diaphragm type pressure plates. I also under- stand that the over centre action increases with clutch plate wear. Thus, it is possible that an old, worn clutch plate may have greater "bite" (more aggressive engagement) than a new plate. Cheers... jondee86 |
