2JZ in a Hachi, What about RB26DETT?
Hey all what do you think about an RB26DETT engine in a Hachi? I was thinking about taking my Hachi to the US. The engine is probably on its way out 230k on the ticker. Just a wild thought. It would be a GTR86.

Hey Mulisha,
Going to take the hachi to the US? Sounds like an expensive trip I'm not sure about putting a RB26DETT in, does it even fit? I'd think its way to much power for such a small car not to mention it'll upset your weight distribution fairly much. If you want more power, why not go GZE or GTE? Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

As you can see in this image:
A SR20DET is already difficult to fit in a hachi. I doubt the RB26DETT will fit. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

Fiting anything else beside 4a-gX series engine kills the spirit of hachi.
IMO only other engine worth of swaping is from honda s2k f20c. Rotary imho no. AE86 is so much praised because of it's great balance and lightnes. keep it that way Drifting - best fun you can have in your car with your pants on! |

Anything over 150 whp imho just overpowers the AE86 chassis. Bragging about large hp output is great, but you are left with a car that is just too unforgiving. Even with the stock output they are tricky for most people to drive at the limit. Mind you, I wrote AT the limit, not over it. If drifting is the only thing you are interested in then maybe the big HP may help conceal a lack of driver talent. Better buy a car with large hp numbers to start with and keep the AE86 as a tool to teach you how to drive a momentum car.

Just because Im located in Germany doesnt mean I didnt spend several years in japan, owning several drifters and tunning several my self. So you keep your normal car and your normal tuning ability and your normal driving skills and your normal everything else and keep it to your normal self.
Yeah I had a High horse power car. I owned a R32 GTR, hence having a RB26DETT. The car is totalled due to large animals in the road. Since I have that engine and I own an underpowered hachi, why not! I dont have to buy anything. Oh yeah and the engine doesnt fit under my coffee table. And if that engine fit I wouldnt need to drift it. Talk about an underdog at the drag strip. Im tired of the normal everyday crap people do. Mulisha You have by far the ugliest hachi on the nicest rims in the world -Mux213 |

I'm thinking I could have formulated my reply a little better. I didn't want to suggest that you need large hp numbers to cover up for lack of driver talent. Just that if you have them that it helps to cover up, whether you need it or not is up to you. You seem to be pretty confidant of your clearly "above ordinary"driving and drifting skills, so I'm looking forward to seeing some footage of you in action some time.
Perhaps you have some photo's of you and your Skyline? Pretty cool car, always fun to see. And by the way, I stand by my opinion regarding the engine. Putting it in will change the car beyond recognition and it will not al be positive. If a drag car is what you are after there are better chassis' to start with. Nice car, shame about the crash. Did you hit a dear or something?
The "above ordinary" comes from the first part of your previous reply. To me it seems to say that you are not ordinary in the ways that you regard me to be. Perhaps I understood it improperly, thats the problem with internet sometimes, hard to catch the intonation of some things. You opened this thread to ask opinions on the installation of the RB into the AE86 chassis. I gave you mine and you can do with it what you want. Ill just go back to being ordinary. Im not bashing you at all. Your right on the whole internet conversations, they can be misconstrued. I am just tired of being part of the crowd. I wasnt saying you were ordinary and I appreciate your opinion, Im sorry if I came off like that. Thanks for your opinions everyone. Next week, hopefully everyone will see if the RB will fit in the engine bay of the hachi. Tune in for updates.
