4AGE reliable seller?
Greetings
Some time ago I came across with a company called SMR Engines that, among other engines, sells the 4AGE 20v Blacktop engine for a very interesting price. You can find their add on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-MR2-COROLLA...2eaa4243eb They are supposedly based in UK. I've been considering to buy an engine from them but I was wondering if any of you had ever made any business with them, and if their engines are as reliable as they say they are. We imported two engines from JDM-parts.nl blacktop and 4AGZE -- both seem to have been laying under a cloud, a bit rotten if you know what I mean. BT runs fine, but needs a rebuild. As for 4AGZE, well, it died -- valve spring failed, engine looked like a mess when dismantled. Overall I'm not too satisfied with them.
Don't know about SMR, but to tell you the truth, I'd try them -- at least their engines are reconditioned and tested properly (or so they say) ![]() |

Good luck and let us know ![]() ![]() |

4AGE reliable seller?
I bought an SMR engine from ebay.
To start with it turned up 1 month late. When it was checked over we found cylinder no.1 throttle had grit in it and needed cleaning out. When it was installed in the vehicle it ran for 20 seconds before making some very bad noises. The engine was stipped down and it turned out a collet on one of the valves was incorrectly fitted - this resulted in cylinder no.4 being holed, two bent valves and the cylinder head was destroyed. I couldn't contact the ebay seller by email or phone. When I contacted SMR it was out of warrenty according to their records (although I had only had the engine for 4.5 months) so they wouldn't replace it. I ended up sourcing another engine from Canada and having it shipped to the UK (which itself ended up being expensive because of a paperwork cockup by the sender). So I would be very carefull about buying an SMR engine, particularly from ebay. The seller on the link you posted was different but it used the same image so probably the same person so beware. |

Why don't you buy an engine from him: http://www.clkmotorsport.com/index.htm
I have one rebuilt Blacktop from here, running since a year, mostly on sport occasions with no problems at all. And gjuro bought one from clk at the same time, and he is happy with it as well. Check out his thread: http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/ae86/p/118600#118600 Here is a vid of the building my engine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjoJns8Uvoc And some pics of it: http://www.ae86.hu/movies/teze/BT20V.zip Thumbs up for Chin Lee Kun, and if you contact him, tell him, that Zoltan from Hungary sent you ![]() |
