And you are running this on the stock ECU... right ?
So how does it run ?? The stock ECU only has limited ability
to adjust the fuel and ignition. Once the modifications to the
engine go beyond the point where the stock ECU can keep
up, performance and drivability will suffer.

Big cams affect the engine vacuum, particularly at idle, to
the point where the engine may not idle at all. They also
change the amount of air entering the cylinders, so that the
engine may run dangerously lean at high rpm, and ridiculously
rich at low rpm. A duration of 272 deg is usually considered
to be at the limit of the stock ECU.

Raising the compression, porting the head and installing a
free-flowing exhaust, will allow you to take advantage of the
improved breathing of big cams. But until you get control
of the fuel and ignition maps with an after-market ECU, you
will never obtain the full benefit of your modifications.
