4agze timing
Im very happy with my swap and it feels great and huge torquey than my prev bluetop.

Last week i changed fuel pump for a supra turbo oem and it,ve made lot of difference, but my las to-do-list is timing.

I ve tried 3 different timing gun and none of it have worked. Not even start the light. I belive its due to is wasted spark so signal on the plug 1 is doubled. I,ve already take in mind the arrow for the spark direction

What can i do to timing it properly?

Will it work if i take the signal from coil of 1/4 cil and i atached to the little plier that goes to the platinium contacts used on old ignition distributors?

Seems strange that you can't get the light to flash Confused

I'm running wasted spark with GZE coils, and if I clip the inductive pickup
onto the #1 plug lead, my timing light works fine. It doesn't matter if the
plug is fired twice as often as it will always be fired at the correct timing
BTDC. Did you try the timing lights on some other car to make sure they
were working correctly ?

No i did not. My other cars are cop. I will test it on other car to make sure it works and came back to let you know

Hi all, finally my timing setup is ok.

Now i was trying to change to cop coils. I was using the yaris ones with 4 pins. The pins are as follow non particulary order: common earth, 12v power, ecu trigger and coil feedback to tell ecu about coil problems

I've wired everything but the feedback pin and it doesnt work at all.
Any ideas on whats the problem? I still not tryed to earth or power the feedback pic in case it can be damaged.

Any ideas are much appreciated

The feedback signal (IGf) tells the ECU that the igniter (each COP has
its own built-in igniter) has generated a spark. If the ECU does not receive
the IGf signal afte a few IGt (trigger) signals have been sent to the igniter,
it stops triggering the igniter(s).

If you are batch firing the COP's you need to wire one IGf output back
to the IGf pin on the ECU.

Im running it on wasted spark 1/4 adn 2/3 as on my ford dual coil. Ive tested now the wiring with leds on the +12 and trigger and it works ok but when i connect coil nothing happened.

Im using map dli 4agze ecu and harness

You may have a problem Confused This is what I think, and remember that this is
just what I make up from what I know about the GZE ignition system.

The GZE ECU sends two signals to the GZE... one tells the igniter to trigger,
and the other tells the igniter which coil to fire. The signals from the ECU to
the igniter will be low level (ca 5V) and the igniter will then switch 12V to
ground to fire the coil. This system will work with any "dumb" set of two
double ended wasted spark coils. The igniter will generate an IGf signal for
the ECU.

Now you want to drive smart COP's (built-in igniters) wired in pairs to run
as wasted spark. These COP's expect a low level signal to tell the built-in
igniter to trigger. But your GZE igniter can only switch 12V to ground. This
will not work. The low level signal from the ECU to the GZE igniter *might*
be able to trigger your COP's, but since it will deliver 4 triggers for every
720 crank degrees, you could only use the signal for batch firing. And you
would need to take one IGf signal back to the ECU.

The only way to make your system work the way you want is to change to
dumb 2-wire COP's. These can be wired up in pairs to run wasted spark
with the GZE igniter switching 12V to ground to fire them. IGf is supplied
by the igniter as before.

I understand what you say but the way gze coils works is one wire 12v and the other one 5v x2 connectors. Now i have only one wire for 12 and the 2 independent 5v signal from ecu to fire each of 2 coils. As i see now there is no return signal to ecu or igniter.

Is possible to build a kind if circuit board to transform this gze 5v signals on the appropiate ones to fire the set of cops?

As it seem its not so easy as it is on the webs?

If it is not possible to transform the signal, what 2wire cop can i use?

the return signal is from generated on the igniter and going from there to the ECU in stock form. there was a pdf somewhere online, I'll see if I can find it again

Referring to this diagram from the document linked above, you can see
that the GZE igniter has a module for decoding the ECU signal that tells
the igniter which coil to fire. The 4AGZE uses only two transistors because
it has only four cylinders.

I have never heard of anyone using the GZE ECU and igniter to drive COP's.
This pic is said to be an early 2-wire Toyota COP from a "Tundra" in the
USA market. There are probably others, but I have no idea if any of them
are going to fit on your engine.

Since there is little or no performance advantage from using COP's, it may
be better to just continue with 2-pole wasted spark coil packs ?
