Oh man that sucks! :o
It's not so much the money involved, but the sheer amount of phone calls and making arrangements that make it worse. Also the insecurity what will be paid and what isn't covered is maddening. I must say I had to grin over all the Toyota dealers denying to take care of your car. So typical, especially after the experience I had during the summer. I had my share of road-side assistance in Germany/Hungary a few years ago and having to make the decision to have it fixed (and hopefully drive) or towed back home is difficult. I made the wrong decision to have it fixed...thrice. The good part was that I turned out to be insured for this and the tow only cost me 70 euros while receiving a replacement car. At least the fact that you have three months of warranty from Carland is a good thing. Also gives them a lot of credibility for what they offer being up to spec, and if not: they'll fix it. Just kidding, in hindsight it is an experience that I may as well print on my CV for job applications and laugh with the interviewer together. I might have underestimated old car life. Of course a lot of thoughts come into mind that I did a mistake in getting a 205.000 km AE86 in a foreign country where I don't have tools or friends with tools to help me. (Or sufficiant language skills.) How reliable are 4AGEs? Is 200k already too much km on those engines? It is a tray which opens with a push mechanism. Pretty decent size, too, for charging cables and coins, etc. |

A German currently in Japan
Hi again. After receiving the car, I only had it for 3 days when the head gasket blew. Carland gives 3 months of warranty starting from the delivery day. My insurance was only 1 day old at moment. This is old news.
Last Monday (2 day ago) I received a call from Tokuchi-san, a replacement engine has been found, tested, new gaskets installed and finally placed into the car. It took 20 days to repair it. According to K-M-S and Tokuchi-san, the engine is good. The car will be delivered next week Tuesday. The repair costs and final transport are covered by the warranty. The first and second transports were covered by the insurance. I really hope that me and my car will come out stronger after this. And I can finally shoot more photos of it. Cheers. |
