I've got one of these, mine is actually an EE80 so with the 2E engine and automatic gearbox.

I think the engine swap should be relatively easy since you could swap everything with the parts of an AE82 GT hatchback (eventually including the fenders, grille and hood).

I don't race cars so i don't know much about this but i think getting it balanced is hard as was said before in this topic. If I drive my car trough a corner fast it has terrible understeer.

It'll probably be fun to do this but not very wise. At least I am not considering it...

BTW The early model (<1985) 1.3 engines where 2A's so 8 valve engines, i think once the 1.3 was upgraded to 12 valves the 4A 8 valve SOHC engine was not available anymore. At least that's for the Netherlands.

Keep in mind that EE80 will not take direct A-series engine swap (just the engine without the tranny components).

A 4E-FTE off of a starlet turbo should fit the EE80 though.. Smile

My car is an EE80 but the car described here is said to be an AE80 so with the 4A-l engine. Wouldn't that make things easier ?

Off topic: I wonder how the automatic gearbox in my car would keep up when swapping to 4E-FTE... Not wise either I think

No you're probably right. The added torque will probably fry the tranny. But if you get a front clip of the turbo starlet you get the gearbox too.. as well as everything else you need. Thumbs up!
